Lucy Lawless Admits She Was Worried About Her Character's Fate On 'Spartacus'
Lucy Lawless storms back into the fray on “Spartacus: Vengeance” when the show premieres on Starz next Friday, but the actress wasn’t always sure her status-hungry character, Lucretia, would return.
“Part of me was like, ‘If it doesn’t happen, it’s fine, I always seem to find another job somewhere,’” Lucy told AccessHollywood.com at the Season 2 premiere of the Starz show at Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome on Wednesday night.
“But, part of me was also like, ‘Oh, they’d be crazy to kill me,’” she smiled, waving her little finger in the air like a mad genius. Click HERE to watch the clip.
Fans of the show know that Lucretia was left in a pool of blood at the end of “Spartacus: Blood & Sand,” after an uprising by the gladiators, led by Spartacus (then played by Andy Whitfield, and in Season 2, a role jumped into by Liam McIntyre).
As the season begins, Lucretia, having survived, is going to find a more spiritual side.
“Lucretia was always a little bit religious and she’d pray to the gods when she was trying to have a baby and make sacrifices,” Lucy said. “But now that she’s lost everything, she’s much more vulnerable and people in tight spots, like Lucretia, do tend to turn to can turn to religion for a little bit of strength, or magical thinking, whatever you want to call it.”
Over a year in the works, the team behind the series is excited to finally be bringing – finally – to the faithful.
“So exciting, and so thrilled,” Lucy said of coming back. “We worked so hard for the last year, trying to bring these stories to life and believe me, there’s 350 other people who work on the show, that layer on their genius on top of whatever the heck the actors are doing — we’re the least of it. But now, it’s our time to hand it over to the fans and this show is made for fans and it’s their time to take it and make of it what they will.”
“Spartacus: Vengeance” returns to Starz on Friday, January 27 at 10 PM.
