After a long day on the set of AMC’s three-time Emmy award winning Outstanding Drama Series “Mad Men,” Jon Hamm won’t be unwinding by watching to find out who gets the final rose on ABC reality TV.
In a new interview with Details magazine, the actor revealed he has no patience for reality stars.
“LA represents opportunity,” he said in the mag’s October issue. “And, as has been proven over and over in the current media landscape, it doesn’t take much for them to put you on TV. If that’s all you want, you can be on ‘The Bachelor’ or ‘The Real Housewives’ or whatever show just wants oversized personalities, ridiculous behavior, and zero dignity.”
The 39-year-old star said he believes that reality TV is similar to adult entertainment.
“When you try to learn how to act, you approach it with respect. But if you just want to be famous . . . that’s not that much different than porn,” he continued. “‘I’m a movie star!’ Well, no, you’re not. You’re a porn star, and that’s completely different. And you know, hey, mazel tov – porn probably built half the houses out here, but you’re selling your dignity in a way that I feel I’m not. And once you sell it, it’s gone. You ain’t getting it back.”
That’s not to say that actor isn’t above a few compromising positions when it comes to his work.
“I never minded standing up and looking like an idiot, which is tremendously helpful in this industry and not so much in others,” he explained.
“The Town” star does, however, like to avoid looking like a fool when it comes to the paparazzi.
“I don’t know how the ‘Twilight’ kids or Miley Cyrus or whoever handle it. You f*** up, make one bad decision, and people in Thailand Twitter about it,” he told the mag “I’m old, I’m boring. I usually just duck the paparazzi. It’s literally someone waiting for you to pick your nose or scratch yourself… everyone has picked their nose at one point in their life too.”
