LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Caption Madonna on the March 2012 cover of The AdvocateMadonna may seem like a strong, powerful force of nature, but she admitted her skin isn’t as thick as some might think.
When talking about her new film, “W.E.,” Madonna’s directorial feature film debut, the star said the press can sometimes break through her walls.
“I mean, I certainly don’t engage [with the media] as much as I did,” she told The Advocate, which features the pop star on its latest cover. “When people are writing about you in the beginning and they’re saying nice things, you’re like, ‘Oh!’ You feel this lift of energy. Then they say bad things, and of course, you’re affected by that too.”
But with age comes wisdom and the international icon said she can now let the negative go.
“I don’t really dwell on it anymore. I used to be kind of fixated on it and think, ‘It’s not fair, it’s not fair, it’s not fair,’ but it is what it is, and I just have to get on with my life,” she told the mag.
And that life includes being a mother to four children.
Despite being a superstar, Madonna said her kids want her to be “normal.”
“They just really want me to just be Mom and be normal, and don’t show up dressed in any outlandish way,” she told the mag. “Just come to school, do the parent-teacher meetings. I can’t even wear a tracksuit. That attracts attention too. You know, they don’t really want to see me as a famous person or a celebrity or somebody. They don’t get it right now. They think I’m a little quirky.”
