NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Maksim Chmerkovskiy has set the record straight on what appeared to be a proposal on his part on last week’s Ukrainian version of “The Bachelor.”

“There was, what seemed to be the ring and everything else, but if you speak Russian, you would understand that I did not propose,” Maks told Access Hollywood at the All-Star Pro Show, presented by Dance With Me Studios, in New York City on Sunday.

Maks didn’t get a fiancee or a lasting relationship out of the experience and he wasn’t prepared to explain why.

“It finished and I’ll leave it at that,” Maks told Access of his romance with the unnamed brunette. “It was the hardest half a year of my life [filming that show], because the show was three months and then three months I had to be kind of silent about it. But everybody knows everything now, and if they don’t, they’ll find out in the next couple of days somehow.”

The ballroom bad boy, who was previously engaged to his “DWTS” co-star Karina Smirnoff, said he did the Ukrainian “Bachelor” because he was open to different methods for finding love.

“I’m a hopeless romantic, and I still am and I thought, ‘Hey, why not?’” Maks smiled. “You always think that there’s a possibility.”

While Maks left his return to “DWTS” after his second place finish with Kirstie Alley on Season 12 up in the air, he said he still hasn’t made a decision one way, or the other.

“I never said I wasn’t [returning]. I’m taking this time off to do things that I love and that make me happy,” he said. “‘Dancing with the Stars’ certainly made all this possible… and I’m not saying that I don’t enjoy being there, but it’s been 10 seasons, I need to figure out what’s good for me. I have amazing people behind me that will not let me make a mistake. It will be a right decision for me.”
