“People are trying to peg it on things because it was so shocking. It was like, it must have been something… It wasn’t something sensationalistic,” Marc said in an interview with ABC News’ John Quinones, part of which aired on “Good Morning America” on Thursday.
“Infidelity?” Quinones asked.
“No, absolutely not,” Anthony said firmly.
The singer said his split with Lopez, which was announced last month, was something they mutually decided on.
“It was a realization on both our parts… It wasn’t shocking. These things happen,” he explained. “It’s a decision that we made jointly. And that’s how I’ll answer that.”
Despite their relationship woes, the star still has strong feelings for his estranged wife.
“I’ll always love Jennifer. Yes. I’ll always love Jennifer. She knows that,” Marc said. “Jennifer’s a wonderful, wonderful woman, a wonderful mother, a wonderful friend, you know. We understand this to be a long story. This is not a short story. “
Anthony went on to explain that they will do their best to not let the split affect their 3-year-old twins, Max and Emme.
“I’m always going to be daddy,” he told Quinones. “And they’re used to me traveling and Jennifer traveling and, you know, we speak all the time, and try to maintain that presence.”
The singer-turned-actor, who now lives in a Long Island home he bought prior to marrying Jennifer, was coy when asked if he’s ready to date again.
“That’s like asking a boxer in the twelfth round if he’s going to retire or not,” he said. “He’ll always say, ‘I’m done. I’m done.’ You know what I mean? And then two weeks later is when you ask him.”
Adding with a laugh, “So give me two weeks.”
Marc’s full interview will air tonight night on “Nightline” on ABC.
