Caption Marlee MatlinLOS ANGELES, Calif. -- It’s Body Image Month at Access Hollywood and we caught up with Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin.
“How are you doing Marlee?” Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell asked.
“[I’m] doing good, but I want to be able to fit into these jeans like I used to,” she replied.
Marlee told Access she needs our help to get back into shape.
You’ve seen people who need to lose hundreds of pounds, but most just need to shed a few. Marlee thinks she does too.
“Are you ready for our get fit challenge?” Nancy asked her.
“Nancy, after having four kids, it’s time,” Marlee confessed.
Access paired Marlee with Harley Pasternak, a trainer who has worked with Jessica Simpson, Eva Mendes and Katherine Heigl.
“What do you hope to accomplish in this month of working together?” Harley asked Marlee.
“I hope to be able feel less insecure and happy in my body,” she said. “I want to be able to be proud of my body.”
In the 2004 film, “What The Bleep Do We Know,” Marlee’s character examined negative thoughts about her body.
As it turns out, Marlee has had similar struggles.
Even though she won as Oscar for her first film, “Children of a Lesser God,” a 19-year-old, 99-pound Matlin was told to lay off snacks while shooting.
“The director said ‘Enough! You’ve gained weight and you’ve got to stop.’ And I was like ‘What?’ . . . . it was a little brutal.”
As Marlee embarks on her Get Fit Challenge, here are Marlee’s beginning stats:
Height: 5’3”Waist: 28.5”Hips: 38”Thighs: 23.5”
Marlee is a busy, working mother who needs a workout plan that’s easy and effective.
Harley’s Five-Factor Fitness plan calls for a 25-minute workout at least five days a week.
Phase One is a cardio warm-up, which helps reduce the chance of injury during workout.
Harley picked jumping rope to get Marlee’s blood pumping.
Phase Two is the upper body.
Marlee’s posture will improve thanks to these standing cable rows.
And that’s not all.
“This actually gives you a natural boob lift, because it pulls your shoulders back which raises the boobs up,” Marlee said. “Four babies – they ruined my boobs.”
Phase Three tones the lower body and these dead lifts will help Marlee’s thighs look great.
Phase Four will help bring her back the six-pack by strengthening her core with side bends.
Finally, Phase Five is another round of cardio to burn the fat so Harley and Marlee take a run around the block.
