Martin Freeman On Working With His Real Partner On Masterpiece's Sherlock Season 3
“Sherlock” returns to PBS’ Masterpiece on Sunday night and viewers will get to see actor Martin Freeman paired up opposite his real-life partner Amanda Abbington.
“I’ve done it a few times with Amanda before, but nothing as sustained as this,” Martin told AccessHollywood.com on Tuesday, following the panel for his new FX show “Fargo” at the Television Critics Association Winter Tour 2014. “We’re playing partners in the show.”
Martin, who plays John Watson on the PBS drama, said he admires Amanda’s talents in the role of Mary and acting opposite her on the hit series was delightful.
“She’s great,” he continued. “I love it. It made the day go even quicker. It made it even more enjoyable. We have a natural kind of rhythm and chemistry together that I love. I really appreciate that part of my day. It made it easier.”
After the staged suicide at the end of Season 3 of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes, Martin’s character, John, is about to come face-to-face with his brilliant pal.
“John finds out that his best friend is not dead after all. There’s a great new villain,” Martin said of what’s ahead this season. “There’s some of the best scripts I’ve ever read.”
A report surfaced in the UK’s The Sun on Tuesday that the BBC is hoping to fast track a Season 4 of the show, something Access asked Martin about on Tuesday.
“That’s news to me,” Martin said about the rumor. “People have told me that today. If journalists are saying it, it must be true. I don’t know.
“I’ve not read any new scripts,” he continued. “So all I know is we all like the show we all want to keep doing it for as long as we want to do it and as long as we enjoy it.”
“Sherlock” Season 3 premieres stateside on PBS Masterpiece this Sunday night.
