LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

“Superbad,” meet superheroes. Christopher Mintz-Plasse – who played the infamous McLovin in last summer’s hit comedy “Superbad” – is in negotiations to join the comic book adaption of “Kick-Ass,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Layer Cake” producer Matthew Vaughn is reportedly readying the film, which is based on Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s violent comic. Vaughn seems to be a big believer in the project – he is slated to direct and also raised the film’s $30 million budget himself after several studios passed on the project due to the story’s violence, the trade paper reported.

“Kick-Ass” follows the tale of a high school outcast who decides to become a costumed superhero named Kick-Ass. Reportedly, studios were scared off by the project, which features crime-fighting youths.

Chloe Moretz (the voice of Darby on “My Friends Tigger & Pooh”), has been cast as a ninja sword-wielding 11-year-old.

Mintz-Plasse will reportedly play a slightly older role as the Red Mist, a mobster’s teenage son.

The movie’s protagonist has yet to be cast. Meanwhile, Vaughn is reportedly in talks with some heavy-hitting Hollywood grown-ups to play the mobster and parent roles.
