CHICAGO, Ill. -- Melissa Etheridge opened up about her split with wife Tammy Lynn Etheridge on Friday’s “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” telling the talk show queen their split was mutual.

“As mutual as those things can be,” Melissa told Oprah. “It’s sad, and we share two children and she will always be in my life.”

“She’s a wonderful woman and an incredible mother,” Melissa added of Tammy, whom she married in 2003.

During her sit down interview, Melissa hinted to Oprah that she is going through a period of self-discovery.

“As I’ve gone through this life, having gone through breast cancer almost six years ago now, [I’ve learned] that it’s about evolving,” she told the talk show host. “I feel like now I’m walking my life. I’m realizing that I’m no good to anyone else unless I’m completely in love with myself and good with myself.”

Tammy Lynn, however, a former star of the TV show “Popular” and a one time guest star of Showtime’s “The L Word,” hit her blog, Hollywood Farm Girl, on Friday, where she suggested not everything is as it seems.

“this will be the only place where you will get the truth Hollywood Farm Girl is the only one who gets it right who won’t spin won’t lie won’t act like there was drifting and that’s all,” she wrote.

The former couple have two children together and Melissa said they will continue to put their kids first.

“We want to do all the things that are best to keep our children healthy and secure,” she told Oprah.
