LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Michael Phelps has already brought home the gold – now he’s bringing it to TV. The record-breaking Olympic swimming champ will host the season premiere of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” on Sept. 13 and make an appearance on MTV’s “Video Music Awards” on Sept. 7, Access Hollywood has learned.

Sources close to MTV confirmed to Access that Michael Phelps would be involved in this year’s “VMAs,” though there’s no word yet on what he’ll do on the show.

On “SNL,” host Phelps will make his acting debut, according to a statement released to Access. He’ll be appearing alongside musical guest Lil Wayne. The tattooed rapper is an admitted favorite of Phelps, who told NBC’s “Today” show that he listened to Wayne’s “I’m Me” while preparing for races.

That’s not all the swimmer has up his sleeve – he’s writing a book on his life and historic Olympic victories entitled “Built To Succeed,” which is due out on Free Press in December.

Phelps, 23, became the winningest Olympian ever at the 2008 Beijing Games, breaking the all-time record for gold medals as well as trumping Mark Spitz’s record for golds for a single Olympic Games with eight.
