LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Caption Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino arrives at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards at NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE on September 12, 2010 in Los Angeles, California.Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is putting his “Jersey Shore” dating experiences to good use in the form of a tongue-in-cheek advice book titled, “Here’s the Situation: A Guide to Creeping on Chicks, Avoiding Grenades, and getting in Your GTL on the Jersey Shore.”
“I really wanted to reach my fans somehow,” Sitch told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson in an interview on Wednesday. “[The book] was a good way for me to get to all [of] my fans. It’s a humorous look at dating and, you know, different types of relationships and dressing and GTL and all that.”
The Situation has come a long way in two short years (from having “no money” and “bad credit,” to being one of the most quoted and recognized reality stars of 2010), and he said his newfound fame definitely has its perks — like meeting one of his favorite celebs in an airport.
“[Dwayne‘The Rock’ Johnson] was going in this terminal — and I’ve always been a fan of The Rock, he’s an awesome dude, and he was going in his terminal and he turned around and saw me,” The Sitch told Shaun. “He turns back around and walked right up to me and he’s like, ‘Situation, America loves you. You’ve branded yourself and nobody taught you how.’
“And I just respected him so much more. I was a fan before that and he didn’t have to come up to me and give me any advice or say anything. So, it was really big for me,” the “Jersey Shore” star added.
As for those famous “Jersey Shore” catchphrases, The Situation spelled them all out for Access.
“Creepin’ is sorta like flirting,” he told Shaun. “Grenades [are] an unattractive female due to personality or appearance. You could be a very pretty girl, but… it’s just an unattractive trait to a female. If you’re a very pretty female but you’re not nice [or] you’re not generous, you could be a grenade. Or you could be a person that’s not aesthetically pretty but has an awesome personality — you’re not a grenade.
“A grenade launcher is definitely a very big grenade,” he laughed.
The Sitch also made one thing very clear when it comes to the “Shore’s” signature “dance technique,” fist pumping: the beat must only be beat to house music.
“Fist pumpin’ is just when you’re in the club, to certain music,” he explained to Shaun. “I mean, you can’t fist pump to hip-hop music. I mean, you just — you really can’t. It’s really just for club music and it’s sort of just like going with the beat.”
Despite his well-chronicled charm with the ladies, the 27-year-old star said he is having trouble finding a woman who wants to date him for the right reasons.
“I find it impossible,” he told Shaun, when asked if he is finding it difficult to find a quality girlfriend. “I’ll show up to an event and people are chasing me, attacking me. And then finally, if you do meet a girl who you actually think is attractive, which I do meet on a daily basis, what are her motives? Are her motives spotlight? Money?
“I really would like to get some advice from some experienced celebs to find out how they actually [find someone], ‘cause this is my second year in entertainment and I’m finding it very hard to weed out [the good from the bad],” he added.
In addition to the advice of “experienced celebs,” The Sitch can also rely on his “Creeper’s Prayer” for strength, which states, “God, grant me the stamina to satisfy hot chicks, the courage to deny grenades, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
“I actually thought that was hilarious when I came up with it [on ‘Jersey Shore],” he laughed after reciting the “prayer.” “[I] decided to put it in the book.
The Situation, who is known for lifting his shirt and revealing his trademark six-pack abs, told Shaun that he attempts to stay humble, and that appearing on a certain ABC reality dance competition made humility painfully possible.
“I try to be humble at times. ‘Dancing with the Stars’ was definitely a humbling experience!” The Sitch laughed. “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life, but one of the greatest things I’ve done. I did the best I could and that’s all I can say and it was very hard.”
The Sitch’s good friend and “Jersey Shore” co-star, DJ Pauly D, is in the running for People’s coveted Sexiest Man Alive title, and The Situation was happy to show support for his fellow “GTL-er.”
“I wish [Pauly D] the best and hope everything works out for him,” he told Shaun. “When it comes to like, Snooki and Pauly, you know, some of us are close, and some of us talk all the time, and we have certain things going on. We really wish the best for each other.”
The Situation promised that readers will enjoy his new book (available in stores now).
“It’s a hilarious book, and I guarantee it will not disappoint,” he told Shaun.
