Mindy McCready Talks Sex Tape, Rehab & Her Custody Fight
Mindy McCready always hoped to be known for making country music, but unfortunately, her personal drama has overshadowed her career. She has been abused, has abused substances, been in and out of jail, lost custody of her son, and most recently, there’s been the news of a sex tape.
“It’s something that I’m very ashamed of,” Mindy told Access Hollywood of the tape, which she is currently embroiled in a legal battle with Vivid Entertainment over. “I am not OK with it, I will never be OK with it.”
Mindy added that she is hoping the news over the sex tape dies down soon.
“I’ve done a lot of ridiculously dumb things that have come back to haunt me,” she said. “I hope to goodness that there is nothing else because I am ready for life to be slightly boring for a minute.”
An open and honest Mindy told Access that she is disgusted by the claims she leaked a sex tape to help sell her new album.
“This is not a publicity stunt,” Mindy said. “I’m trying to get my child back right now… [This is] the last thing that I would ever want to do, whether I was trying to get my child back or not. That’s just not me.”
Mindy has battled her demons openly, including on “Celebrity Rehab.”
“Dr. Drew in giving me a diagnosis, diagnosed me as a person who has co-dependency. The new age term is a ‘love addict,’” she said. “It leads you into the wrong relationships and you go from one horrible relationship to another. Then I started drinking too much.”
Now, Mindy is fighting her way back and has released her comeback album, “I’m Still Here” — her first album in eight years. The album includes the title track, which was inspired by when her son Xander, then a 1-year-old, came to visit her in jail where she was serving time for violating probation for a 2004 drug arrest.
“When they brought him up, he didn’t recognize me,” Mindy said. “He didn’t remember me.
“If jail didn’t hit home enough, that really did,” she added.
Right now, Mindy does not have custody of Xander, now 4. She is fighting to get him back from her mother.
“I said, ‘Are you going to be excited to come back to Nashville with mommy?’ and he said, ‘I’m scared.’ And I said, ‘What are you scared of?’ He said, ‘I’m scared I’m going to get my heart broke again,’” Mindy recounted.
