Supermodel Miranda Kerr is a self-confessed wellness junkie.

So, it makes sense she’s on to “the” hottest oil of the moment.

“I personally take four tablespoons of coconut oil per day, either on my salads, in my cooking or in my cups of green tea. I will not go a day without coconut oil,” she recently stated.

Move over olive oil, coconut oil is on well on its way to being 2014’s trendiest wellness product. Health-conscious celebs, like Kerr, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston are already on to this powerhouse food product.

“Coconut oil possesses a wide variety of health benefits due to its fiber and nutritional contents. It has earned the moniker of the “healthiest oil in the world,” reveal the folks at Carrington Farms Coconut Oils to Healthy Hollywood.

Coconut oil is a heart-healthy food that can help your body in a variety of way.

“Coconut oil is made up of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA). These fatty acids do not have a negative on cholesterol. They are known to lower the risk of heart disease. The liver and gall bladder do not need to digest and emulsify MCFA, resulting in instant energy, increased metabolic rate and subsequently more heat production and increased circulation,” explain the Carrington Farms folks.

Plus, many wellness experts believe coconut oil is a healthier alternative to other cooking oils. It is perfect for sautéing, baking and cooking and doesn’t add any funky flavor. As a fat replacer, for every teaspoon of butter, use 1 teaspoon of coconut oil; for 1 tablespoon of oil use 1 tablespoon for coconut.

But, cooking is just one of many health benefits. Get ready for coconut oil to be your new must-have product.

Carrington Farms shares some of the other health benefits.

Hair Care: The unique fatty acids in coconut oil have a small molecular structure and pass freely into the hair’s cell membrane, allowing for the oil to penetrate the hair’s shaft. Massaging oil into the scalp can offer relief from dandruff. Coconut oil can kill the fungus and dryness that causes dandruff. A teaspoon or two on damp hair left on as long as possible then rinsed out will leave your hair beautiful.

Skin Care: The medium chain triglyceride acts as a protective barrier against environmental and free radical damage. It also screens up to 20% of ultraviolet sun exposure. Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants and is a natural anti-microbial and anti-bacterial agent. Due to this it is the perfect anti aging moisturizer. It contains Vitamin E, help in the recovery of skin abrasions, burns and other trauma. It is excellent in the treatment for eczema.

Weight loss: Medium Chain fatty acids found in coconut oil can speed up metabolism faster than long chain fatty acids because they are easily digested and convert into energy.

General Health: Coconut Oil may lower the risk of diabetes, heart disease and improve cholesterol levels. Studies show people who take coconut oil improved their cholesterol profile along with higher HDL levels and higher HDL: LDL ratio. Research also has found coconut oil may help prevent osteoporosis because it helps in nutrient absorption of mineral such as calcium and magnesium. MCT produce energy rather than body fat, thereby improving metabolism and preventing fatigue.
