LONDON, U.K. --

Amy Winehouse’s father is imploring people to help his troubled daughter get healthy, Sky News reports.

“I want people to understand, even if they give her one cigarette they’re causing her harm,” Mitch Winehouse told the U.K. news channel.

The singer has been photographed smoking even after spending time in the hospital for lung problems after collapsing in June.

Mitch told Sky News on Saturday that his daughter has a “small amount” of emphysema in her lungs. Earlier, Tracey Miller, Amy’s U.S.-based representative, told the Associated Press that Winehouse had “early signs of what could lead to emphysema.”

“She has got a serious health problem,” Mitch said. “My biggest fear is that she would die and she won’t die from an overdose, she will die from emphysema. We would be talking about a very slow and painful death, gasping for air. I would like to say to anybody who would supply her with substances to think about that.”

Among those alleged enablers is Winehouse’s incarcerated husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.

The singer has taken to wearing a Blake pin in her hair during recent performances and told Rolling Stone, “We are a team.”

“I don’t think he is clean now, but he will go straight to rehab when he gets out,” Mitch said. “He has promised me that he will make things right when he is out. I’m going to give him the chance to do that. We will give him the benefit of the doubt. He has got to get himself clean. It’s the last chance saloon if he comes out and they go back to what they were doing before. He’s a fit young man and probably go on like that for years, but Amy can’t and she needs to understand that.”

To help her rest and recover, Mitch said that Amy would not be performing “for the foreseeable future” after completing five previously scheduled gigs.
