LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Ryan Reynolds has beat out stiff competition from Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto to net the role of the “Green Lantern,” a rep for the actor confirmed to Access Hollywood.
Acording to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan’s people started negotiations for the role, based on the DC Comics superhero, on Friday, however, the deal is not yet complete.
Warner Bros., the studio behind the upcoming superhero franchise, held two rounds of screen tests with the three finalists.
Justin Timberlake was also once in the running.
Martin Campbell, who previously directed the 007 films 2006’s “Casino Royale” and 1995’s “GoldenEye,” will direct “Green Lantern.”
Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti will produce the film.
According to Variety, production on the film is expected to start in January.
Ryan recently starred as Deadpool in Marvel Comics’ “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and a spin-off film is expected to star his character.
