NBC Confirms Jimmy Fallon To Replace Conan O’Brien On ‘Late Night’

NEW YORK, New York --

After months of speculation, NBC has finally confirmed Jimmy Fallon is making the move to “Late Night.”

Fallon will take over for Conan O’Brien, once Conan replaces Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” in 2009, the network announced on Monday.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Jimmy back on NBC and to have our number one-rated late night team fully in place for the future,” NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman said. “Jimmy is more than just a likeable guy and a great comedian, he is genuinely interested in what people have to say.”

Fallon’s exact “Late Night” premiere date will be announced at a later date.

The comedian was launched into the national spotlight in 1998 as a newcomer to the cast of “Saturday Night Live.” His film credits include “Almost Famous,” “Fever Pitch” and “Taxi.”

Fallon got his first taste of the talk show host’s chair when he filled in for an ailing David Letterman in 2003.
