LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

New “Bachelor” Jake Pavelka – whose identity was revealed on last night’s “Dancing With the Stars” – says he’s won’t be looking for just beauty when he searches for a soulmate on ABC’s “The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love.” The pilot from Dallas wants a woman of substance and character too.

“Can you believe it? I can’t believe it!” Jake told La Toya Jackson on Tuesday as she was working as Access Hollywood’s guest correspondent for “Dancing With the Stars.” “I’m ecstatic. Just couldn’t be better, over blessed.”

Jake, who has been dubbed “America’s most hopeful romantic” by ABC, told Access he doesn’t know what to expect from the 25 bachelorettes who will be vying for his heart.

“I don’t know a thing about any of them,” he told Access. “I absolutely cannot wait…I get lost for words when I start talking about the girls. I understand that they’re just unbelievable.”

And he said his search for love wouldn’t just be about beauty.

“I’m not looking for the most beautiful girl,” Jake explained. “She will be to me no matter what anybody else says, but, I’m looking for a hard character, compassionate, passionate, romantic and, and protective.”

The 31-year-old first captured America’s heart during last season’s “Bachelorette,” when he shared a magical one-on-one date with Jillian Harris to see Martina McBride perform.

Viewers were left stunned when Jillian rejected Jake right before the hometown dates on last season’s “The Bachelorette.” But women were drawn to him even more when Jake returned of his own accord in the next episode to protect Jillian from men who he said were not there for the right reasons. Jake – who already knew Jillian would not take him back – freely shared and showed his emotions, and that’s when the requests for Jake to be the next Bachelor started to pour in.

“The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love” premieres on ABC in January 2010.
