BEIJING, China -- Nicole Kidman proved to be lady luck personified for the Australian Olympic sailing team.

The actress placed a call to two members of the team – Malcolm Page and Nathan Wilmot — who always named their boats after the star or her films, leaving them messages of good luck before their race in the 470 men’s sailing competition at the Beijing Olympics.

Page told Australia’s Herald Sun that he missed Nicole’s first phone call because he was screening and didn’t recognize the number, but joked to the paper that he skipped it because he was too busy.

“I was getting breakfast and thought, ‘Ah, I just don’t want to talk to her today’, so I bumped it, then two seconds later there was a message from Nicole wishing us good luck,” he told the paper.

Before Page and Wilmot scored a gold medal for Australia, he gave Nicole a call back.

“Yes, I ended up returning her call. She was very happy,” Page said.

According to the paper, Page and Wilmot previously named their boats “Dead Calm,” and “Days of Thunder,” so it came as little surprise that her call was inspiring.

“It does go a long way, don’t worry about that,” he said.

But how does Nicole feel about having their boats pay tribute to her career?

“She was very surprised that we do have a tradition of naming our boats after her movies and she’s just really stoked to be part of a team,” Page said.
