A few weeks ago, I first wrote about Sade’s comeback, in my review of lead single, “Soldier of Love,” from the upcoming album of the same name, which was released today.
The comeback of the band, named after the first name of its lead singer, is complete with today’s full album release. And as expected, it delivers!
Fitting of a comeback from a group that has persevered 25+ years in this business, the sultry signature sounds of Sade are back in full force throughout the full album. Leadoff single, “The Moon and the Sky,” is as strong as anything the band has ever done. And Sade’s vocals have not changed an inch over the years. The song is as romantic as 2000 hit, “By Your Side.”
Other standouts on the disc include the slightly upbeat “Babyfather” (Track 4) and the melancholy & haunting, “Bring Me Home” (Track 7).
And as anyone who caught the band’s performance on the “Today” show this morning can attest, their music sounds as amazing live, as recorded.
Sade’s release marks a trio of releases in the U.S. market from British bands with slightly electronic sounds (Massive Attack and Hot Chip). I haven’t listened to the other two albums yet, but “Soldier of Love,” is one definitely worth picking up. It’ll be in my constant rotation for years to come.
