Caption On The Download: Franz FerdinandHOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Scottish dance-rockers Franz Ferdinand’s third disc, “Tonight: Franz Ferdinand,” is a loosely based “concept album” about a sleazy, sweaty, funked-up romp through an evening of debauchery out on the town (and the come down on the morning after).
The album kicks off with the bass pulsing “Ulysses” and relentlessly catapults into the grooves of “Turn It On” and the dance floor killer “No You Girls” (which could possibly be their next “Take Me Out” sized hit).
Track by track, “Tonight” plays like a greatest hits package with the tight grooves, danceable beats, and cranked guitars never letting up. Yet, somehow, the album is also the group’s most adventurous, utilizing the echoes of Dub Reggae (“Send Him Away”), the lush arrangements of Phil Spector’s wall-of-sound (“Dream Again”), synthesizer passages (“Lucid Dreams”), and believe it or not, percussion using actual human bones!
All the while the album stays cohesive right up until the night’s comedown acoustic ballad “Katherine Kiss Me.” Franz Ferdinand has once again managed to outdo themselves with their best album to date.
