LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Piano chanteuse Regina Spektor released her third full-length studio album, “far,” this week, and it’s a welcome summer sound that doesn’t disappoint.
You probably know Regina best from her prevalence of songs on TV shows including “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Weeds,” and their use in several commercials. In 2006 and 2007, her biggest single to date, “Fidelity,” was ubiquitous on television and radio.
Working with three very different producers, the album’s songs are distinctly different, but still come together for a rich complete experience.
But what stands out universally on all of the songs is Regina’s strongest instrument – her well-enunciating voice. She just has that unique sound that makes you ask, “Who IS this singing?” the first time you hear her.
Lead single, “Laughing With,” is by no means the strongest track on the album. Standout tracks include lead album track, “The Calculation” as well as “Dance Anthem Of The ‘80s,” the two strongest in my book, mostly for their unique upbeat sound.
Part Tori Amos and part Lily Allen, Regina’s staccato sound takes the listener on a journey of introspection and beauty that is truly unique and fresh.
If you want a wonderful soothing summer sound that’s a welcome reprise from the rest of what’s out there, download Regina’s “far” right away.
