Ryan Seacrest gets ashes dumped on him by Sacha Baron Cohen as ‘The Dictator’ on E! Live at the Academy Awards, Hollywood, February 26, 2012

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Ryan Seacrest had an inkling something was going to happen when he heard Sacha Baron Cohen, as his title character in “The Dictator,” wanted to speak with the E! host when he hit the red carpet.

“If you’re going to interview Sacha Baron Cohen in character and you know he’s coming in character and you’ve heard that he really wants to talk to you… I must have heard three or four times, ‘He really wants to speak to you — not Giuliana [Rancic]. To you.’ OK, something is up the sleeve,” Ryan told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush after the Oscars red carpet on Sunday night, referencing the incident on E! where Sacha dropped the faux ashes of the late North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il on the TV host.

“I didn’t quite know what, but I saw this urn getting closer and closer to my chest and that’s when, of course, it happened,” Ryan added of the exact moment when his black suit was dunked in ashes. “So, I was surprised.”

Ryan said he was glad the ashes landed on his coat.

“At least he didn’t hit the face, didn’t hit the hair. It could have been the hair. That would have been a real issue out there,” he added.

Ryan said, however, that he was prepared with a backup coat.

“I did have two jackets with me because you never know what’s going to happen,” he added.
