Two new actors have joined the cast of “Outlander” Season 1.
Aislin McGuckin will play Letitia MacKenzie — the wife of Colum MacKenzie (Gary Lewis), who is the head of the MacKenzie clan and has been described as “a strong woman in her own right,” per Starz.
She’s also the mother of redheaded Hamish, a youngster who causes a little trouble for Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
Liam Carney (“Titanic: Blood and Steel”) is playing Alec McMahon MacKenzie, who is known as Old Alec. He is the “Master of Horse” at Castle Leoch, which is the home base of the MacKenzie clan.
“He serves as a boss and in a way a mentor to Jamie at the stables. A bit gruff, he is definitely a man’s man,” per Starz.
In related news, on Monday, Diana Gabaldon, the author of the “Outlander” series, showed her support for Scottish actor Sam, who is playing her heroic figure, Jamie, in the series.
She wrote on her Facebook page that the actor won her over when she saw some audition footage.
“Five seconds later, Sam Heughan was GONE, and it was Jamie Fraser right there in front of me. True. No costume, no makeup, no props, nothing but cues from an offstage casting director, and…it was him,” she posted on Facebook.
Describing Sam’s early audition version of one particular scene from the first book, Diana said the actor brought “patience, seriousness, annoyance, patience, humor, menace, humor, and…enough sex to drop anyone with functioning ovaries in their tracks.”
“He totally nailed it,” she later added.
“Outlander,” from Starz and Sony Pictures Television, and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, is currently in production in Scotland. The series will premiere next year.
