Patrick Swayze Admitted To Hospital With Pneumonia

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Patrick Swayze has been hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medica Center with pneumonia.

Abbe Raven, the president of A&E, confirmed the news to reporters on Friday, during a panel discussion to promote the actor’s new A&E series, “The Beast,” which premieres next week.

“Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today’s panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery,” Raven said, according to People.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Swayze revealed he was suffering from Stage 4 pancreatic cancer last year.

According to Radar Online, Swayze was spotted by a source flying into Los Angeles last night. He was described as looking unwell. Additionally the source added that the actor had to rest after walking a few steps.

At the A&E panel on Friday, Raven expressed Swayze’s regrets over being unable to attend the interview session.

“As anyone who has had a friend or family member that has undergone treatment for cancer, chemotherapy can take a toll on you immune system,” Raven continued, according to Us Weekly. “Patrick did want me to tell you that he is very sorry he couldn’t be at panel this morning, but he plans to get back to promoting The Beast as soon as he is back on his feet.”

When reached by phone on Friday afternoon, Swayze’s mother, Patsy Swayze, said her son was “doing as well as can be expected.”

Earlier this week, Swayze was featured in an interview with Barbara Walters, which was filmed on December 6, 2008.

During their talk, Swayze said battling cancer has been frightening.

“There’s a lot of fear here,” he said. “There’s a lot of stuff goin’ on. Yeah, I’m scared. Yeah, I’m angry. Yeah, I’m [like], ‘Why me?’ Yeah, I’m all this stuff.”

Despite the disease and the intensive chemotherapy treatments he underwent, Swayze completed work on A&E’s The Beast.

He told Walters that he refused to take painkillers despite the pain, while filming to stay on top of his acting game. He also noted that days on the A&E set lasted 12 hours or longer, but taking the role was just something he had to do.

“I think everybody thought I was out of my mind, you know, thinking I’m gonna pull off a TV show,” he said.
