Philip Seymour Hoffman's Haunting Admission To Publisher John Arundel

Washington Life magazine publisher John Arundel had a chance encounter with Philip Seymour Hoffman recently at Sundance before the actor’s death and recounts to meeting to Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Access Hollywood Live. What did Philip say that troubled John? And how shocked was John to hear the news of Hoffman’s passing?

Parm. Get a chance to do anything else apart from promote the film or become home or snowboarding or skiing or see the family. No there is no joy. Just this. Just this. That was Phillip Seymour Hoffman just two weeks ago at the sundance film festival. After the erratic behavior starting to surface. John Aaron dale associate publisher of "life"magazine who met Phillip Seymour Hoffman and he made an admission and he Jones us from dc. I know John haven't seen him in a listening time. Nice to see you my friend. Tell me what happened when you met Philip. He said something sort of argue to you. He did. Good to see you again. Last time I saw you we were actually drinking beer out of long neck bottle and were you a member of the capitol club with me and interviewed me about Monica lewinsky win 60 top 40 dj. Sorry to meet under such tragic circumstances. But actually it was very tragic. I was at one of those late night sundance partysundance parties. I had met Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Cannes and at previous sundance and I didn't recognize him. He had a flopy hat on and he look pastey face and just didn't lack good at all and when I didn't recognize him he was sort of shocked about that. I said what do you do. I'm a heroin addict and I was taken aback by. That he took off the hat I said you are Phillip Seymour Hoffman. One of my favorite actor and he said bingo. And then he walked off and as he was walking off he said I just came out of rehab. Did you think he was joking when he said heroin addict what was your reaction to that? I didn't know where he was coming from but of course I put all the pieces of the puzzle together when he said that he had crust come out of rehab. So it felt like almost a cry for help. I'm no longer a big star. Rehab teaches me I'm a heroin addict and it was just very sad because like so many of us just huge admirer of all of his work. No question. I always said such a deep talent sometimes you worry. Great acting is not acting at all. It'acting at all. It's just being. Being someone else and he was just a complete actor. He became capote. Praise to pay for that. Darkness. That kind of ability to leave yourself completely. John you were there with other guys. Yes. Throughout the weekend. Yes. Actually he was came over to the sundance collective and spent an hour with the guys sundance collective won by Washington by Charlie .and photo shoot with him. You see the photo emerge now is the photo all over the press. Very dark Brading photo taken by the a P looking down at the ground and it's a very sad portrait of him just such a tragedy. So John after seeing him hearing what he said, what went through your mind when you heard the news of his passing. I was in disbelief. Heard it right before the superbowl and medley I called my friend Charlie. Spent an hour with him and he couldn't believe it either because he had been talking so up beat about hunger games 2. And about the making of hunger game 1 in Georgia. And how much he had enjoyed making that. Of course Elizabeth bank was out there and she was speaking fondly about him and he was talking about all the great things that he was doing recently and very up beat about life and so this just really came as a shocker to all of us. John thank you very much for your testimony. We'll see you again soon. There's another report kit of somebody seeing him on the plane on the way home after sundance and he was kind of slumped in the chair. Slumped in the seat and just done. Not talking to anyone not smiling. Final days. Headed towards collision there. Straight ahead.
