“Personally, I think I’m already on record by saying in America that if she doesn’t win, ‘I’m a donut,’” Piers told Access Hollywood on Friday, using British slang to indicate incredulity should the Scot not take the title. “Let’s just say I’m not heading down to the bakery just yet.”
The former British tabloid editor himself made headlines this week, after he asked the British media and public to give Susan “a break,” following reports she lashed out in public and later cursed at two reporters on Wednesday.
And on Friday, Piers revealed Susan nearly left the competition after the alleged incidents.
“Susan was on the verge of leaving a couple of days ago, that is true. She packed her bags and she was on her way [home],” Piers told Access. “I spoke to her actually just a few moments ago to check if she was OK because all the papers are full of more stories and she was laughing and joking and I think quite determined.”
Piers also confirmed SuBo is no longer staying at the London hotel where the alleged incidents occurred.
“She’s at a safe house away from the main hotel where the other contestants are so she can relax and she’s in good spirits,” he said. “Only with Susan Boyle would you need to use the words ‘safe house.’ I mean, it’s been necessary. She’s not a normal contestant.”
