LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Two weeks ago there was no one more popular than President Barack Obama, but a pair of high-waisted jeans and a tight black tank top launched Jessica Simpson to the forefront of the public’s attention – even bumping the President off the cover of a popular celebrity magazine.
In their cover image of their final January week’s issue, Us Weekly cropped President Obama out of the right-hand side of a picture of the whole First Family --- where he would have appeared was instead a story about Jessica Simpson’s Weight-Gate – a bump that President Obama was able to find humor in.
“Yeah, it’s a little hurtful,” he joked with NBC’s Matt Lauer during an interview which aired Sunday night before the Super Bowl on NBC.
“You got replaced by Jessica Simpson!” Matt told the President.
“Who’s in a weight battle, apparently,” Obama quipped, reading the magazine’s cover. “Oh well!”
