LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Production on Mischa Barton’s new show for The CW, “The Beautiful Life,” has been postponed, but a rep for the network insists it has nothing to do with the actress’ current condition.
“Production remains unaffected by Mischa’s situation but our start date has been pushed to the end of this month… due to set construction issues,” a rep for The CW told Access Hollywood of the drama, which will now begin shooting July 31 in New York City.
Last week, Access broke news that Barton had been taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 15, after a source said she was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold (also known as a 5150) by authorities.
According to the California Welfare and Institutions Code, authorities can hold a person involuntarily if they present a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or suffer from a mental disorder. This same code was used to hold Britney Spears twice in Los Angeles in January 2008.
The hold, which initially lasts for 72-hours, can be extended up to 14 days by a psychiatrist.
It was unclear at press time if Barton had been released from the medical facility.
A rep for Barton had no update on the actress’ condition when reached by Access on Monday.
On Friday, prior to the emergence of construction issues on the show’s set, Barton’s rep told Access that production on “The Beauitful Life,” was set to begin next week, but would “ultimately be contingent upon her progress and doctor’s orders.”
Barton plays Sonja Stone in the upcoming CW series, an older model with a fondness for pill popping and on the comeback trail. Real-life supermodel Elle Macpherson, former “High School Musical” actor Corbin Blue and “Sydney White” actress Sara Paxton also co-star in the series.
