LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Access Hollywood is heading to the Grammys on Sunday and our very own Shaun Robinson is putting those last minute touches on her look as she prepares to hit the red carpet once again to catch up with music’s biggest superstars.
A Grammy veteran, Shaun’s been covering music’s biggest night for Access for years and as she prepares to go stiletto to stiletto with some of music’s heavy hitters, she shares her red carpet tips and memories of her favorite star interviews.
But first, a little fashion talk.
AccessHollywood.com: The Grammys are a little more rock ‘n’ roll than the other shows during awards season. How does that affect your own red carpet look?
Shaun Robinson: For the other shows — the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards — we want a long, elegant gown. But, when you go to the Grammys, you want to rock out, you want to be hip, you want to be really edgy and it’s time to break out the short dresses and the bling. Grammys are really fun and you have to remember, you are not going to be on the red carpet with Meryl Streep, you’re going to be on there with Lady Gaga, so you’ve got to think in those terms of bringing something that’s really fun, that’s like a party. It means fun, it means rock n’ roll, it means having a good time.
AccessHollywood.com: And arriving in eggs if you can do it.
Shaun Robinson: I probably won’t be arriving in an egg (laughs), but I always like a lot of bling when it comes to the Grammys, because people just go all out. You have your Rihannas there, you have Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, so everybody’s going to be watching to see what these people wear — if they all walk the red carpet — and most of the time they do. You want something that’s a real showstopper, you want something that’s edgy and fun, and in the spirit of the show.
AccessHollywood.com: What is your dress going to look like?
Shaun Robinson: I’m wearing a dress by a designer that I’ve never worn before. There was one dress that I thought was really pretty and then [Nicole Allowitz], my stylist, brought in another dress [on Friday] and I was like, ‘That’s it!’… Fire crystals — that’s what it looks like! It’s really funky, and it’s short and it’s got a little fringe on the bottom.
AccessHollywood.com: Let’s talk Grammys star fashion – who are the ladies and gents that get it right year after year.
Shaun Robinson: I mentioned Lady Gaga and I like the surprises that she brings. I was on the red carpet when she came in an egg, and I was like, ‘Wow, that is really, really unique.’ So, I can’t wait to see what she is going to wear. Carrie Underwood, for me, always looks really pretty. Rihanna’s always very edgy. I’m really anxious to see what she has on, because she’s always very cutting edge, always has on something really fabulous and something that is a showstopper that people love to talk about. Taylor Swift always looks so beautiful on
the carpet. Nicki Minaj — I definitely want to see what Nicki Minaj is going to have on.
AccessHollywood.com: And the men?
Shaun Robinson: LL Cool J always looks very dashing, very handsome. I know he’s going to step it up [because he is hosting the show], but he’s got that amazing body. Whatever he wears always looks so, so fly on him. He always looks very dashing to me and I think Drake looks very handsome also.
AccessHollywood.com: Who are the stars who really ‘get’ the red carpet and make their interviews fun every time?
Shaun Robinson: LL Cool J is always a fantastic interview. He’s very suave and dashing. Jaime Foxx, whenever he comes to the Grammys, [he’s great], because he’s always at the awards shows — the acting shows and the music shows.
AccessHollywood.com: He is seasoned.
Shaun Robinson: Yes, he is, so I love, love, love talking to him… I love interviewing Alicia Keys. She’s always so classy and beautiful, I just love talking to her. Usher is one of my favorite guys to interview. I just love him. He is so talented and so charming and so sweet. He’s always got something fun to say, and my God, how sexy can he be!
AccessHollywood.com: One of the great things about the Grammys is there are a lot of new artists on the red carpet. What tip would you give a young, up-and-coming artist, who is there for the first time?
Shaun Robinson: The one thing I would say to a young, up-and-coming artist, who’s experiencing all of this for the first time, is to really, live in the moment. You will always remember your first time at the Grammys and when you walk down that carpet, walk down that carpet like you deserve to be there. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by all of these superstars, but at one time or another, they all felt like, ‘Gosh, do I fit in, or do I deserve to be here?’ Or they may have had some other insecurity. Know that the reason that you were invited to the Grammys is that you are talented and that people like your music and you deserve to have this honor. Enjoy it, have fun, and try to get some advice along the way from the big fellas about how to handle the whole thing and what their experience has been like, because there is no other time that you will probably be in the room with as many people as you admire, as you will be on Sunday.
