LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
If Heath Ledger wins the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his iconic role as The Joker in “The Dark Knight,” it won’t be Michelle Williams up on stage accepting the award for the late actor.
Much had been made about who would accept the posthumous award in Heath’s honor, with his father, Kim Ledger, his former girlfriend and mother of his child Michelle Williams and “Dark Knight” director Christopher Nolan as the likely choices.
However, a rep for Michelle said reports of the actress being involved in Heath’s absence are “not true.”
“There have been no conversations about Michelle Williams presenting or accepting an award having to do with Heath nor are there going to be,” the rep told Access.
When asked who they’d most like to see accept the award should Heath win, 62 percent of AccessHollywood.com viewers said they’d like to see Michelle up on stage, with 38 percent voting for Heath’s father.
Heath, who died in January 2008 at the age of 28, is up for the award against Tom Cruise (“Tropic Thunder”); Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man”); Ralph Fiennes (“The Duchess”); and Philip Seymour Hoffman (“Doubt”).
If Heath were to win, it wouldn’t mark the first time a Golden Globe was awarded posthumously in a major category. Actor Peter Finch won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Pitcure, Drama in 1977 for “Network.” Finch died in January 1977, two weeks before the awards.
The 66th annual Golden Globe Awards will be handed out January 11 on NBC.
