Report: Matt Damon, Tom Brady’s Private Info Improperly Accessed By Police

BOSTON, Mass. -- Police from across the state of Massachusetts have been improperly looking up private information on “high-profile citizens,” the Boston Globe reported.

According to the newspaper, auditors discovered hundreds of “repeated searches and queries” on stars including Matt Damon, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, musician James Taylor, Celtics guard Paul Pierce and Red Sox owner Jon Henry in the state’s Criminal Offender Record System, a database of criminal records, driving history and additional personal information.

A yearlong review uncovered the searches, made by users “without any apparent work-related justification.” The unauthorized use could be deemed as fraud, the Globe reported.

However, Curtis Wood, the executive director of the Criminal History Systems Board, said the searches in question were a small percentage of the system’s overall use.

“Compared to the 13 million transactions in the system a month, the number is a small representation of our user community,” he told the paper. “I’m fairly comfortable in saying that 99 percent do not misuse the system.”

He added that the agency will investigate the situation and track down the origins of the searches.
