LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
On Thursday, David Letterman admitted to sleeping with women who had worked for his late night show after he was allegedly blackmailed over the information — and more details are reportedly emerging.
According to TMZ, Holly Hester — a former NYU student who interned on the show — dated the funnyman for a year.
“I was madly in love with him at the time,” Hester reportedly told the site. “I would have married him. He was hilarious.”
And a source told People that Letterman had carried on another sexual relationship with an unnamed staffer during the late ‘90s.
“I’m not surprised this came out,” the source, reportedly a former staffer as well, told the mag. “Even the interns knew stuff like that was going on.”
The woman in question was a peer — “not an intern,” according to the mag.
Another source said long days on the set of “The Late Show” led to a sexually charged environment.
“In politics it’s the same thing,” the source said. “People who live it, eat it, breathe it … [It’s] not some sort of predatory, ‘Let’s hire beautiful women so we can feast on them’ kind of thing. That’s just not the way it works.”
And while Letterman himself admitted to conducting several relationships, the source defended his conduct behind the scenes.
“He never acted inappropriate with any of the female staff,” the source said. “He was very kind, and I never recall anyone saying anything at all bad about him.”
The TV host’s former assistant, Stephanie Birkitt, is believed to have conducted a relationship with Letterman as well — allegedly, her letters and diaries were the source of suspect Robert Halderman’s alleged blackmail attempts. Birkitt had lived with the “48 Hours” producer and been his girlfriend, Access Hollywood previously confirmed.
Reps for the comedian were not immediately available for comment when contacted by Access.
Letterman, 62, married his longtime girlfriend, Regina Lasko, in March of this year.
