Ricki Lake is back with a new daytime talk show, premiering in syndicated television on September 10.

“I’ve kind of grown up a lot and had this life experience,” Ricki told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson who visited her on set. “Since going off the air, I went through a really painful divorce, I’m raising two boys. I have a 15-year-old and 11-year-old. I’m newly married and I think we’ve all evolved.”

Ricki introduced Access’ Shaun to her husband, Christian Evans, on the set, and the talk show host revealed their very first encounter wasn’t completely pleasant.

“I was rude to him,” Ricki admitted. “I wasn’t nice to him. I met him through my friend and we met at the beach.”

It wasn’t a blind date, which may have accounted for why Ricki was a little loose with her tongue.

“I had said to [my friend], ‘Are you trying to fix me up?’ because I was dating these other people and she said, ‘Oh, no. He’s not your type. He has tattoos.’ So I didn’t even think of it as a romantic thing,” Ricki said.

“I just went, ’Oh, well, this is a sweet person,’ and she proceeded to tell me I was damaged goods within five minutes,” Christian said.

Christian is supporting his wife as she begins her new journey with “The Ricki Lake Show,” which she told Access’ Shaun is more mature and thought-provoking.

“The biggest difference for me is that I didn’t know what I was doing when I did my old show,” Ricki said of how things are different now, compared to when she first hosted a TV talker. “I was 23 years old when I did the pilot.

“This time around I’m not the actor that was cast in the role, I was hired because of my experience,” Ricki added.

Ricki’s original show was sassy. Asked what the most salacious thing she did on her first “Ricki Lake Show,” back then, she said it had to do with squabbling women.

“Oh God, ‘He’s my baby daddy! Back off, ‘biatch’!’ That was about as bad as it got, but, I loved [it],” she laughed.

Asked if her new show will have any of those sorts of themes, Ricki confirmed it would – but with a twist.

“You’ll see it, but it’ll be a different tone, a different kind of flavor,” she said.
