LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
With her dewey complexion and sparkling on-screen presence in ABC’s colorful new drama “Pushing Daisies,” British actress Anna Friel is about to charm America.
Among picturesque sets and and quirky characters, Friel plays Charlotte “Chuck” Charles, the love interest of “Pushing Daisies’” hero, Ned.
As viewers quickly find out, Ned is a young man with a special talent. If someone dies, one touch from Ned and they are magically brought to life again. He has one minute to touch them again and return them to death, or another life is taken in their place.
Ned finds out about his power as a boy, sadly affecting his neigbor Chuck. As the drama progresses and Ned begins to use his power for financial gain, he finds out a grown up Chuck has been murdered.
After bringing her back to life in an attempt to find out who killed her – for a reward, Ned looks into her fiery eyes and cherubic face and lets the minute slip away from him. Though his schoolboy crush is again inflamed, Ned and Chuck are stuck, in puppy love, with the inability to touch one another.
Plus, there is the all too sticky matter of who killed Chuck, to deal with.
At just 31, Friel is already a veteran of television, film and stage. As a late teen, she starred on a popular British soap opera, set in Liverpool – “Brookside.” Her character Beth Jordache, became involved in a lesbian relationship and as a result, she took part in the first girl on girl kiss shown on UK TV screens before 9PM at night.
Friel has also appeared in several films and on Broadway, starring in Patrick Marber’s “Closer.”
