Rory McCann On The Hound's 'Game Of Thrones' Status, Being Recognized

Rory McCann's The Hound fell off a cliff and was left bleeding by the side of a rock in the "Game of Thrones" Season 4 finale.

"It wasn't looking good, was it? If he opens his mouth, and 'blubbbb,' the blood comes out, that's not looking good. There's always hope, but, I don't know," he told Access Hollywood at Comic-Con, over The Hound's undetermined fate.

Although Sandor "The Hound" Clegane's future is uncertain, Rory was very happy with the fan reaction to his Episode 10 fight scene opposite Gwendoline Christie's Brienne of Tarth.

"Really pleased," he told Access. "We actually didn't hurt each other, so to actually do that and we came off with just cuts and bruises and a little bit sore, I think that was quite an accomplishment."

To pull off the scene, preparation began well in advance of shooting in Iceland.

"It was hard. We had to rehearse solidly for three and a half weeks, I would say," Rory said. "We rehearsed in Belfast [on] a sprung floor, in a totally different environment. Then, we were going to film and when we're thrown up on volcanic rock, a few thousand feet in the air, in the mountains, it was suddenly all a different dynamic. [It was] very exciting. It was pretty scary. You're aware it was going to be the last episode and it was quite important. We worked bloody hard on it to be honest."

Rory revealed that Gwendoline actually surprised him when they shot the scene.

"When Brienne went crazy at the end of that fight, that wasn't – she went extra crazy. That wasn't in rehearsal. In rehearsals she only did half that amount, so on the day, she was smashing my nose with a rubber rock," he laughed.

Rory had made such an impression with his "Game of Thrones" character over the seasons that he's found himself recognized in very awkward, off-the-road spots.

"I sail about in remote places in Scotland. … I think that I've been out in a really, really remote place and then I row ashore to a little pub and there's only two or three people there and it's like the scene out of 'Game of Thrones' -- a guy turns around, and goes, 'I know you. You're The Hound!' and it's really hard not to actually go, 'Here I am. Bring me one of those chickens,'" he laughed.
