Rosie O'Donnell Dishes On Joining ABC Family's The Fosters For Guest Arc
Rosie O’Donnell is heading to ABC Family’s “The Fosters,” and she told Access Hollywood how it happened.
“Well I love the show and my daughter, Vivian, and I have watched every single episode,” Rosie told Access Hollywood at the Rosie’s Theater Kids 10th Anniversary Gala at The New York Marriott Marquis on Wednesday evening.
“It’s a great show and she watches a lot on ABC Family and when that one came on we were thrilled. And she said, ‘This is great. Finally a show like our family with a bunch of different kids from different ways and two mommies.’ So she loves it and I love it too and I [realized] that Peter Paige created it and I know him really well from ‘Queer as Folk’… so I wrote him a congratulatory little e-mail and he said, ‘Hey! Would you like to come do some?’” Rosie recounted.
And of course, being a fan, she said yes.
“I said, ‘In a heartbeat!’ So I’m gonna play a social worker who runs a transitional housing for kids in foster care. When they’re 18, they age out and one of the Foster kids has run away at the end of the Season 1 and so I think that we end up in the same place,” she added.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Rosie will play Rita Hendricks, described by the studio as, “a tough yet compassionate woman who works in the foster care system and becomes a mentor to a member of the Foster family.”
“The Fosters” stars Teri Polo as Stef Foster and Sherri Saum as Lena Adams Foster, a couple with a big family.
