NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Rosie O’Donnell is known for her strong opinions, but surprisingly, last night she had little to say about Heidi Montag’s recent decision to undergo ten plastic surgery procedures.
“Do you want to hear how sad my life is? I’m at 47, almost 48, which makes me kind of 50. I don’t know who Heidi Montag is,” Rosie told Access Hollywood Tuesday night at the premiere of her new documentary “A Family Is A Family Is A Family: A Rosie O’Donnell Celebration,” which premieres January 31 on HBO. “Is that the Spencer/Heidi thing? I never even saw the Speidi/Heidi thing.
“You know, these people that become celebrities from reality shows – it’s a tragic trajectory,” she added.
Instead of reality stars, Rosie wanted to focus on more important things, like helping the tragic victims of the Haiti earthquake.
“I’d like to see everybody give,” she said. “I’d like to see celebrities give too. I think it’s a great thing. George Clooney is an amazing, philanthropic man and I’m sure he’ll do [the Haiti telethon] right.”
Beyond lending her voice and donating money, Rosie is also open to making her home available to Haitian children in need.
“I know my family would be able to take a child or a brother and sister in and foster and love the child until either family or relatives can be found,” she said.
And Rosie is all about family. She posed last night with her four children – Parker, Chelsea, Blake, and Vivienne, and her ex, Kelli Carpenter — at her premiere.
The documentary focuses on the diversity of families today and the challenges they face.
“When Parker was [younger], he used to say, ‘I wish I had a dad,’” Rosie recounted. “I’d be like, ‘Yeah, that’d be really good if we did, but if you had a dad you wouldn’t have me as a mommy, ‘cause I’m the kind of mommy that wants another mommy. I’m not the kind of mommy who wants a daddy. So then you would have a different mommy.’ And he said, ‘Hmm, alright then. I’ll just keep you.’ I was like, ‘Phew! Close one.’”
