LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Ryan Reynolds said he might adopt a child in the future, but not because of any celebrity trend.

“My oldest brother is adopted and I have every intention of adopting at some time,” he told the British edition of Glamour magazine. “I’m very grateful for having my brother in my life.”

The star of “The Proposal,” who married Scarlett Johansson in September 2008, said he is a big advocate of giving a needy child a home.

“I couldn’t be more pro-adoption,” the Canadian actor said. “There are plenty of kids in the world that need it.”

Ryan, who grew up with three brothers, also told the magazine that the presence of so many young men in his life as a child, helped him on his path to action roles in movies like “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”

“I [learned] how to take a punch from a very early age,” he said. “I was routinely pummeled into a fine cottage cheese.”
