EVERETT, Wash. -- Booted “Idol” Sanjaya Malakar appeared on-stage surrounded by drag queens singing Its Raining Men, at a concert thrown last Sunday night by a Seattle radio station.
When KISS-106.1 FM radio in Seattle held their Girls Night Out concert Sunday in Everett, featuring Fergie, Hilary Duff, Katharine McPhee & Lily Allen, Malakar was the guest of honor!
As you can see in this video on YouTube from the event, he appears slightly bewildered at the scene taking place around him.
According to Marcus D. Najera, the program director for 106.1, Sanjaya was completely aware of the situation, and we had spoken about it for days in advance. He was on our morning show the next morning to talk about it. We werent trying to ambush him at all. The crowd loved it and it was a chance for them to cheer for their hometown boy.
The drag queens played in with the theme of Girls Night Out, Najera continued.
And check out this footage (above) of a 7-year-old Sanjaya singing with sister Shyamali in 1997, in New York.
In this exclusive footage, the siblings sing “My Girl,” “Our Generation” and some traditional Hawaiian melodies during Universal Peace Day, an annual event promoting world peace.
And while the hair wasn’t quite there yet, the trademark Sanjaya smile was shining even at a young age.==================================Meanwhile, before the KIIS concert, it was singer Lily Allen who was feeling the affects of Seattles raining ways.PEOPLE magazine reports, that the singer wrote on her MySpace page about how she spent the Saturday before the concert, lying in bed crying over body image issues.“I used to pride myself on being strong-minded and not being some stupid girl obsessed with the way I look. I felt like it didn’t matter if I was a bit chubby because I’m not a model, I’m a singer, Allen wrote.”[But] I’m afraid I am not strong and have fallen victim to the evil machine. I write to you in a sea of tears from my hotel bed in Seattle. I have spent the past hour researching gastric bypass surgery and laser liposuction.”On Monday, she updated her Blog: Hi guys, I’m sorry if I worried anyone with the blog I wrote yesterday. I was feeling pretty sorry for myself, I’ve been reading all your comments and they have made me realize there is more to life than being thin! So thank you.Maybe it was Sanjayas performance that cheered her up!
