NASHVILLE, Tenn. (October 20, 2006) — The husband of country singer Sara Evans says she filed for divorce the day after he discovered she was having an affair.
Craig Schelske did not identify the other man in court documents filed Friday in Williamson County Chancery Court.
A rep for Schelske released the following statement to Access Hollywood:
“Today Mr. Schelske has formally responded to the allegations of Ms. Evans’ Petition for Divorce with several court filings. He has demanded retractions of those allegations, an apology and that the further spreading of false information be stopped immediately. He has requested that his wife and her attorneys immediately reveal what factual basis they had to make such vicious and untrue allegations. Believing that they have no adequate factual basis for the outrageous claims, he has requested that sanctions be imposed under law and that the allegations be stricken from the record. This will be his first legal step to clear his name and reputation. It will not be his last. He will take whatever steps are necessary in the future to repair the harm done to his reputation and to protect his three children in any way he can.”
In his answer to Evans’ petition for divorce filed last week, Schelske denies Evans’ allegations that he committed adultery, was verbally and emotionally abusive, drank excessively and frequently watched pornography in their home.
Schelske, who ran for Congress as a Republican from Oregon’s 5th District in 2002, says he and Evans, 35, were watching pornography together when their oldest child, a 7-year-old son whom they believed to be asleep, entered their room unexpectedly.
He also denies her claims that he posed for nude photographs of himself — except a few taken by his wife on their 10th wedding anniversary — as well as the existence of any sexual photographs of himself with other women, or that he had an affair with their former nanny. The nanny also has denied the allegation.
“No other photographs exist and any allegations of such are outrageous, defamatory, malicious and legally actionable,” the suit states.
Schelske, 43, also says his wife’s interest in her “marital roles and responsibilities” declined and she “neglected” their three children after she began appearing on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”
But what would Evans do if she caught her husband cheating?
When Evans and husband Schelske attended the “Walk The Line” premiere in 2005, a reporter from from WLPJ posed that very question to the country singer and she had a very interesting answer
