Sarah Jessica Parker Likens Another Star Playing Carrie Bradshaw To 'Oz' Without Judy Garland
Sarah Jessica Parker might be best known for her role as Carrie Bradshaw in “Sex and The City” franchise, and the actress admitted she isn’t entirely comfortable with the thought of someone taking over the part in a potential prequel.
“I would like to be generous of spirit and say, ‘Of course,’ and, ‘I will do so if that is asked of me,’” Sarah Jessica told MTV News.
“It’s just, I don’t know. I can’t imagine anyone else playing Dorothy Gale — just Judy Garland,” she added.
Candace Bushnell, author of the book that spawned the film, recently released “The Carrie Diaries,” which follows Bradshaw when she was simply a young miss – and the tender age of 17. There has been talk of turning the book into a larger project.
When asked recently by Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush who she’d like to see play her character’s younger version, Sarah Jessica said she couldn’t pick an actress.
“God! I don’t know,” she said. “I don’t know.”
Sarah Jessica added that even the thought of someone stepping into the role was heart wrenching.
“It breaks my heart,” she told Billy. “Someone else is going to play Carrie, is that right? Somebody’s really – it’s going to happen, isn’t it? “
Sarah Jessica told Billy that whoever does get the role (provided it is made into a TV or film), she will be as graceful about it as possible.
“I must confess that I feel rather proprietary about the part,” she said. “I’m sure there’s somebody who’s far better at doing it than I am, but it’s… Gosh, I can’t imagine, but I will be generous of spirit and hand it over to her with grace.”
