LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
The big news of 2008 might have been Britney’s comeback, but the pop princess wasn’t the most searched for person this year, leading people to AccessHollywood.com.
We decided to base our list this year on terms that people typed into the major external Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, Ask, etc) in order to reach AccessHollywood.com – we felt it would provide a more accurate list of Access Hollywood’s digital presence and what online folks were truly looking for.
The results may surprise you!
#10 – Robert Pattinson
2008 was a big year for celebrities, and though he only began capturing headlines in the latter half of the year, Robert Pattison had enough people looking for information on him, that the “Twilight” hunk managed to earn the 10th spot on our list of Most Searched Terms leading folks to AccessHollywood.com.
#9 – Halle Berry’s Baby
She was still in utero on New Year’s Eve 2008, but Nahla Ariela Aubry, was the ninth Most Searched Term leading folks to Access Hollywood. Thousands of readers typed the phrase “Halle Berry’s baby” in the search box, to help them find out all they could regarding Halle’s first child, who was born in March.
#8 – “The Biggest Loser”
It’s one of NBC’s most popular shows, so it came as no surprise that “The Biggest Loser” made a big splash on our Most Searched Terms list, coming in at number 8. And it was no doubt helped by Ali Vincent, who became the first female “Biggest Loser” in April, followed by Michelle Aguilar, who became the second, in early December.
#7 – “American Idol’s” David Archuleta
He didn’t win “American Idol,” but David Archuleta was a winner in our Most Searched for Terms list. Archie, who had a hit with his debut single “Crush,” was the only “Idol” alumni who made our list.
#6 – “Dancing With the Stars”
Thanks to multiple hospital visits by their celebrity contestants and the pros, plus Cloris Leachman’s wacky antics, “Dancing With the Stars,” became the sixth Most Searched Term leading folks to AccessHollywood.com!
#5 – Miley Cyrus
She’s only just turned 16, but Miley Cyrus was big for AccessHollywood.com in 2008. The Disney teen sensation’s comments about her Vanity Fair story, her crushes on Coldplay’s Chris Martin and model Justin Gaston, her rumored feud with fellow Disney star Selena Gomez and talk of her break-up with Nick Jonas, all kept fans searching for Miley.
#4 – Heath Ledger
Heath Ledger’s shocking death in January 2008 only increased the interest in the talented actor. People searched for news on his death and “Dark Knight” role, making the late actor our fourth Most Searched for Term in 2008.
#3 – Angelina Jolie
Mother of six, humanitarian, activist and actress, Angelina Jolie, was the third Most Searched term leading folks to our Web site. From the news she was pregnant, to the revelation she was having twins, to life with Brad, and her three huge films (“Kung Fu Panda,” “Wanted” and “Changeling”), our readers couldn’t get enough of Angie.
#2 – Britney Spears
Britney Spears had what started out as a tumultuous 2008, end on a high. And through it all Web users kept looking up her name, making her our second Most Searched term of the year. From her early year hospitalizations to news of her “Circus” comeback, Britney was high on the interest levels of the AccessHollywood.com readers.
#1 – Sarah Larson
Sarah Larson, the woman who stole George Clooney’s heart in 2007, accompanied him to the Oscars in February 2008 and split with the superstar later in the year, came in as our Number 1 Most Searched term leading folks to AccessHollywood.com. The result, probably, of the fact that users were hungry to learn more about her, and only Access had the information about her online. The surprising entry from the former Las Vegas cocktail waitress turned model surpassed even Britney to reach the top spot.
