“Scandal” star Joe Morton stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday ahead of the ABC show’s big Season 3 winter finale and dished on what’s to come for his character, Eli/Rowan Pope, and his daughter, Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington).
Will viewers soon see a softer side of B613’s cold-blooded Command?
“I have no idea,” Joe told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover, when asked if Rowan will be “nicer” to Liv, after last week’s revelation that Rowan’s seemingly vicious actions have been an attempt to protect her from her “monster” mother. “From week to week, we have no idea what [creator Shonda Rhimes] is going to come up with.”
Adding, “The table reads are extremely, extremely exciting, simply because we have no idea.”
Joe also cleared up confusion regarding his character’s two first names, Eli and Rowan.
“Eli works for the Smithsonian and Rowan works for B613,” he said, adding that the name Rowan bears much meaning. “There are two sides to Rowan.
“The name actually comes from that same bark that they use to make the wands for Harry Potter,” he continued. “Rowan bush is something that’s used to protect – it’s a protective plant. So that’s part of who he is. The other part of who he is is he will, by all means necessary, protect the Republic.”
Don’t miss the “Scandal” Season 3 winter finale – Thursday at 10/9c on ABC.
