LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- “Sex and The City 2” has only been in theaters for one week, but there is already talk of another big screen adventure for Carrie Bradshaw – at least, a younger version of the fashionista.
According to E! Online’s Marc Malkin, New Line is looking to adapt Candace Bushnell’s “The Carrie Diaries” – which chronicles the beloved “Sex” character during her teen years – for the big screen.
“Sure, the ‘SATC’ sequel didn’t open as big as the first flick did, but whatever. Studio execs aren’t about to let go of the Carrie franchise anytime soon because the sequel has already made $90 million worldwide,” an E! source said. “People are still having fun with it. Of course they want the teen years.”
If the “Sex” prequel does make it to the big screen and is a success, there could be a whole new franchise to mine. Bushnell told MTV News in April that she’s already working on a second “Carrie Diaries” book.
In 2008, Bushnell told Access Hollywood that teen sensation Miley Cyrus – who had a cameo in “SATC2” – would be ideal as the young Carrie Bradshaw.
“God! I don’t know,” the actress told Access’ Billy Bush in May when asked about who should a younger version of the character. “I must confess that I feel rather proprietary about the part. I’m sure there’s somebody who’s far better at doing it than I am, but it’s… Gosh, I can’t imagine, but I will be generous of spirit and hand it over to her with grace.”
