In today’s Healthy Hollywood feature: It’s time to applaud young stars, like actress Shailene Woodley, who take care of themselves in an authentic and holistic way. And, don’t bury their natural good looks under tons of makeup or feel the need to exploit their looks in provocative outfits.

This gal is all natural and I love it!

The “Divergent” star opens up about her healthy lifestyle in the May/June issue of Natural Health magazine. The 22-year-old is a big believer in eating foods straight from planet Earth.

“There are so many things we don’t know. Take GMO (genetically-modified-organisms) foods-I don’t necessarily think they’re great for us, but I could be wrong, we just don’t know yet. Regardless, the fact we aren’t allowed to know what’s in our food is huge,” she states in Natural Health.

As result of her natural eating plan, Shailene reveals she got into studying medicinal herbs. She researched Native American cultures in California, adding, “I found that they were not only hunter-gatherers, they were also healers, who relied on the plants around them. I thought that was really profound, so I started learning about all the wild plants in my area, as well as all the wild medicines I could gather and create for myself.”

The LA-based actress reveals in the magazine one of her favorites is stinging nettle. “I always think of it as a female plant because I take it when I’m about to start menstruating – it is especially good for women and full of vitamins and minerals. There’s something very special about seeing a plant and turning it in a tea or infusion or tincture versus taking pills.”

As for any healthy habit that helped her thrive, she reveals in Natural Health, that it’s simple, noting, “I listen to my body. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m really tuned in to what it needs. Sometimes I can go weeks at a time without eating meat because all my body wants is vegetables and rice and not much protein. Then I’ll go through other times where for months on end I just need red meat or chicken or eggs right now. Our bodies are constantly changing, so if you were to eat a certain way forever, I don’t see how that could possibly be right for you.”
