The dueling serial killers on “Dexter” and a mother with split personalities on “United States of Tara” won Golden Globes on Sunday, making it a big night for the Showtime pay cable network.
Michael C. Hall won for best actor in a TV drama and John Lithgow won a supporting actor award for their work in “Dexter.” Both play murderers matching wits in the bloody Showtime series.
And the Golden Globe could give a burst of attention to Collette’s series, “United States of Tara” — at least, that was her expressed hope.

Golden Globe Awards host Ricky Gervais has firm ideas about who should win Sunday and who should have been nominated in the first place — for instance, him.
Gervais said he plans to follow in the footsteps of Bob Hope, who, as Academy Awards host, jokingly whined about being overlooked for his movies. Gervais failed to get a nod for “The Invention of Lying,” which he starred in, co-wrote and co-directed.
