For the first time since Mel Gibson’s arrest a week ago, big stars are speaking out… and they’re talking to Access Hollywood.

?He clearly wants some help and he deserves to get some… ? John Travolta told Access last night at Tony Bennett?s 80th birthday party in New York.

Donald Trump echoed a similar sentiment: ?Well I think it’s just a shame, it’s very sad and he made a terrible mistake…. hopefully he recovers.”

?Chicago? director Rob Marshall: ?It’s a shame because he’s a wonderful artist. Hopefully he can get over it and move past it and maybe learn from it… that’s what happens hopefully?

Mel is recovering but not in a treatment facility as has been reported — Mel is participating in an “outpatient program of recovery.”

Mel?s close friend and ?Maverick? co-star Jodie Foster told the Los Angeles Times, “Is he an anti-Semite? Absolutely not. But it’s no secret that he has always fought a terrible battle with alcoholism. I just wish I had been there, that I had been able to say, ‘Don’t do it. Don’t take that drink.’”

All of this comes on the heels of the three charges leveled at Gibson on Wednesday.

Mel is scheduled to be arraigned on September 28th in Malibu, or according to this photo? Melibu.
