"Outlander" doesn't premiere, officially, until August 9, but Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said if the series takes off, he could see it continuing for a while.
"['Outlander' author] Diana Gabaldon has given us years of great drama, so if the audiences and our subscribers are as interested in it as we think, and the fans really get behind it and tell their friends about it, I don't see any reason why we shouldn’t continue the same journey that Claire and Jamie and Brianna and Roger and everybody have had over centuries," he told reporters on Friday at the Starz portion of the Television Critics Association Summer Tour in Beverly Hills.
TV critics received copies of the first and second episodes this week, but the Starz boss is far ahead on his own "Outlander" viewing. He also confirmed he's making his way through Diana's novels.
"I keep reading the books. ... 'Outlander,' honestly, it's so good. I saw Episode 8 this morning and you know, you don't get a chance to work with material like that," he said.
The Starz boss, who used to work for HBO, said "Outlander" will impress.
"I've seen a few shows in my time and I'd say this is unique and it will certainly please the fans and we think lots of other people as well," he said.
"Outlander" premieres August 9 on Starz. Fans can watch the premiere early, starting on August 2 on the show's Facebook and Twitter pages and various other Starz related properties.
