The Fox network is making a play for laughs next season, with four new comedies planned and a late Saturday-night series with Wanda Sykes.
“Glee” uses a pop-music soundtrack for an aspirational high school series and starts in the fall after getting a special preview Tuesday. Former New York Giant Michael Strahan is in a series about an ex-NFL star who goes back to live with his mother, and Fox is also doing a “Family Guy” spinoff.

In the late ‘90s, flame-haired Scottish singer Shirley Manson ruled the alt-rock charts with her band, Garbage. Though she’s still working on music – a solo record she hopes to record later this year – FOX recently snapped her up to play CEO Catherine Weaver (and the menacing T-1000, when duty calls) in “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.”
Making the move from impassioned frontwoman to actress has been inspiring for Shirley. But to play the role of the bad terminator (that’s on the hunt for the Connor family) as well as her human incarnation, Shirley said she still needed inspiration, which she looked for in two different women.

SAN DIEGO, Calif.
The most passionate Spider-Men, Storm Troopers, Harry Potters and other pop-culture fanatics are headed south for their annual pilgrimage. Comic-Con, the country’s biggest comic-book convention, begins Thursday at the San Diego Convention Center.
More than 100,000 people a day - many in the costumes of their favorite characters - will fill the sprawling seaside space during the four-day convention. They’ll try out the latest video games, seek out collectible books and toys, restock their T-shirt and costume collections and get a preview of anticipated films and TV shows.
