'The Fault In Our Stars': Why It's A Phenomenon

“The Fault In Our Stars,” opening in theaters Friday, is based on the best-selling young adult novel by John Green and fans are going crazy in anticipation of the movie. Dave Karger joins Access’ Billy Bush to breakdown why this movie is such a phenomenon.

Why are you looking at me like that? Because you're beautiful. Oh, my god. Let's watch a movie. Two days until "Fault of our stars" opens. Fans are going crazy in anticipation of the film. I have a 15 year old who's going to the Thursday midnight showing right out of the gate. Dave Carter, host of fandango's weekend ticket joins me. Why is the movie such a phenomenon? No book has captured this audience like this one. People are obsessed with the stories, the characters, now the movie. More than twilight? Up to the same level, but this is a pure heartfelt love story. Looking into the Numbers, fault is outpacing Tom cruise as far as the fandango anticipation. It is. We look at advanced ticket sales and social media buzz and give each movie a score and "Fault in our stars" 86, "Edge of tomorrow," 81, but I think it could do better, which is crazy, because that movie only cost $12 million and "Edge of tomorrow" cost $175 million. "Fault" has broken the record for the most advanced ticket of any romantic drama in fandango's 14-year history. Break down the Numbers. Bigger than "Great gatsby," 95% of ticket buyers are looking forward to this kind of sincere love story. 81% actually have read the book, so that shows what a power the book is. 80% of ticket buyers say they plan to go to the movie with friends, so that's even more tickets sold, more than just a date, and then 64% say the fact that Woodley is in it is a big draw. She and Jennifer Lawrence are the two most relatable stars for this young audience right now. How is the movie, will it take down cruise, does the movie measure up to the book? I love the movie. Definitely got to bring the Kleenex. I love it's a very frank story, is it going to take down Tom cruise, I do think it's going to be number one this week, but if you're a movie fan, you should see both of these movies this weekend, because they are both excellent. Pray for rain, I guess. Thank very much.
